Gie is the first Indonesian movie that touches one of the most controversial and complex conflict in Indonesia that happened in 1965. During the 32 years of Soeharto-era (1966-1998), the Indonesian public was indoctrinated with propaganda that favored Soeharto and his supporters regarding the incident. Eight years ago, this movie will not pass the Soeharto’s censorship.
